Budapest, 1 February 2012
Dear Sir/Madam,
1. Being a Hungarian I am very much interested in the life of minorities, because
about 5 million ethnic Hungarians live in minority over the Hungarian
border in different countries, and unfortunately some of those countries
handle the ethnic Hungarian nationality disgracefully in their own
homeland, where their ancestors had their Hungarian national status
for centuries and centuries.
This treatment is accepted and tolerated by some of the domineering powers
of Europe. These powers have subordinated one or more minorities within
the majority power’s borders by force or manipulation for the national interest
of the ruling majority.
It seems they want to be on the safe side for fear of an avalanche that might
turn out to be similar to the process that led to the collapse
of the colonial system.
As history shows, many of those minorities have practically failed to receive
border in different countries, and unfortunately some of those countries

of the colonial system.
As history shows, many of those minorities have practically failed to receive
crucial help of the ruling majority to maintain and develop their identity.
2. There has never been a better time for the minorities to develop
the rights of the minorities more widely and to step forward on the way
to autonomy or independence. We have had good examples from the recent past.
Remember the independence of “mini” states ( see Kosovo) established
on the remnants of Yugoslavia, and the separation of the Czech Republic and Slovakia.
The presence of the European Minorities must be part of a Diverse Europe,
not to less an extent than the presence of the immigrant communities is meant to be.
(e.g. theTurkish communities in Germany, Arabian communities in France,
in Italy etc), as part of the Idea and the Idol of a Diverse Europe.
Thanks to the EU the borders among the member countries were opened,
which brought free border crossing and family reunion for minorities
torn apart for generations.
The time has come for the minorities to appear in the European scene
to manifest their national identity and values.
The majorities’ Europe should be made aware how large
the allied minorities’ population is, how large their homelands are,
how significant are their economic potentials
that have been increasing the economic power of their ruling states.

The size of all minorities’ homeland:
about 1,180.000 km2, which is 29.68% of the EU’s area and 11.3 % of Europe.
The population of all minorities:

3. The European Union, still a resolute organization, was essentially formed by
the countries of the ruling majorities based on their fundamental interests.
The various European minorities should also ally and build strong
relations among one another in the interest of constant awareness
and activity of their case.
They also need a well working association to acquire greater influence
and power so that they effectively enforce their interests and rights
in coordinated actions on the competent international authorities.
4. We would like to establish an association,
the European Minorities' Association which would be registered
in Budapest,Hungary. We have an office space in downtown Budapest
with office facilities necessary for a secretary, which we offer for
the purposes of this association.
